It was romantically wicked and it was absurdly compelling. It was devilishly holy and it was composed beautifully.
Having picked up this book out of sheer interest in its cover art of the Vintage Classics edition, I was misled to think the story would involve anything but religious matters. I almost threw the book away when Jesus Christ was enthusiastically discussed, but Bulgakov’s unambiguous, mysterious and comedic style of storytelling was too captivating for me to give up.
It was not until I reached the second part of the book where Margarita became the main lead that I absolutely fell in love with the book though. I’ve never known anything religious could be entertaining like this novel. Perhaps the trick was in the way it was portrayed through Satan instead of God, and perhaps I am more satanic than angelic which made Satan’s story more effective with me.
